Beyond doubt, Jane Austen was a rising star in the 18th century English literature. In 1812, Jane Austen put her first work in public. From then on, the study about her works had begun. Austen acquired a rich knowledge of 18th century literature. At the same time, she was the first person who wrote realistic novel in this century. She paid attention to middle class peoplersquo;s life as well as to present country life without industrialization. She was particularly interested in the view of women about love and marriage. Pride and Prejudice is Jane Austenrsquo;s very popular novel. It was written in 1813. Marriage is the theme and it describes the life of middle class. Pride and Prejudice is not only a great work about love stories, but also an illustration of the society at that time. From the ancient times to now, there are many studies about Jane Austen and her works, at home and abroad.

In China, Zhu Aiping was the first one who studied about the marriage in Pride and Prejudice. She expressed her thoughts in her article “Attitude Toward Marriage in Jane Austenrsquo;s Pride and Prejudice”. In 1815, Zhu Hong, who is Chinarsquo;s earlier attention to Austen, redacted Austen Research and opened a window for Chinese scholar to study Austen. Meanwhile, some scholars had also translated some foreign critics about Austenrsquo;s works, such as Lou Chenghong and Kong Haili. In 1990s, especially since 2000, Jane Austen and her works were popular among people and widely received. In 2001, Guan Xianheng studied the views on marriage in Pride and Prejudice. In 2007, Chen Yanling studied the consciousness of feminine in Jane Austenrsquo;s novels. Several domestic presses launched Jane Austenrsquo;s works, such as the Yilin Press, Nanjing University Press and Shanghai Translation Publishing House. What is more, her work has been made into movies, TV drama. There are also many translators, including Wang Keyi, Zhang Jinghao and Sun Zhili, promote the spread of Austenrsquo;s works in China. Researches are more and more. In 2006, Yu Xin points out that peoplersquo;s characters are influenced by money. Money plays a very important part in peoplersquo;s life. People attached great importance to money. In 2009, Lin Ling analyzed this novel from triangular theory of love that love consists of three components: passion, intimacy and commitment.

At abroad, in 1826, Walter Scott made a study of Pride and Prejudice from an overall perspective. He analyzed Jane Austenrsquo;s characteristic in his article called The Journal of Sir Walter Scott. In his thought, Jane Austen was a magician who can combine her feelings with the life she observed naturally. She was single all her life and had gift for describing common things of ordinary people. She was the symbol of her era.

Although many people have done researches on this novel, there are still lots to be discovered. Something creative is needed. This paper will analyze four marriages with the mating theory to draw a conclusion that love is the only indispensable part of happy marriage.
